The South African Social Security Agency offered the SASSA disability grant to the South African disable citizens who met the specific criteria. The purpose of this grant is to provide the financial assistance to the disable citizens. The SASSA offer two type of disability grants in the South Africa. One is for the permanent disable individuals and the the other is for the temporary disable persons. The permanent SASSA disblility grant awarded to the peoples if the disability is expected to last longer more than one year. On the other side if the disability is expected to last between 6 and 12 months SASSA will provide you a temporary disability grant.

The amount of the SASSA Disability Grant is the same for children, adults, both temporary and permanent disability applicants. As of February 2024, the maximum monthly payment is R2,090. But please, keep in mind that this is the maximum amount, and the actual grant amount you receive might be lower depending on your household income. Thanks to the South African government it offers different type of grant to the children with disabilities which is called Care Dependency Grant.

Who Qualifies For The Disability Grant SASSA?

To qualify for the SASSA grant in the South Africa you must meet the following criteria.

  • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee residing in South Africa.
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 59.
  • Not be cared for in a state institution.
  • Have a 13-digit bar-coded identity document (ID).
  • Earn less than R86,280 per year if single or R172,560 per year if married.
  • Have assets worth less than R1,227,600 if single or R2,455,200 if married.
  • Undergo a medical examination by a SASSA-appointed doctor to confirm a permanent, severe disability that prevents you from working for at least six months.

In person: This is the traditional and most in use method to submit the disability grant application. Here are the steps about how to do it.
